Crows feet are the radiating lines stemming from the corner of the eye and spreading toward the ear and hairline; and are usually the result of smiling and laughing. These lines are caused by contraction of several facial muscles including orbicularis oculi, zygomaticus major and minor, levator labii superioris alaeque nasi, temporalis and possibly others. Given the complexity of facial anatomy involved and the fact that most clients only want their crows feet ‘softened’ to reduce their ageing effect, a thorough understanding of facial anatomy is required to treat this concern properly. In the majority of cases, botulinum injections (Botox® or Dysport®) are sufficient to achieve the natural and desired result, however, sometimes dermal fillers are required to further soften deeper lines and folds.
